How To Transform Your Laptop Into A Portable Multimedia Giant With A Portable DVD Burner

A portable DVD burner can transform the latest notebook or laptop computers into a multimedia powerhouse with the same capabilities as a desktop. This gives you many more choices as to how you back up your files, and it also frees people from being chained to their desks. It is now possible for people on the move to have the same facilities as those sitting in the office all day. The capacity of DVD is such that it is now fast and easy to back up all files, including video files which are becoming ever more important.

Although all desktop computers now come with DVD drives as standard, there are still many old ones which do not have one. Many computers produced in recent years have been fitted with a drive which can read and write to CD media, but only read from DVD media. Many of these computers are still in use, and if you have one you may be reluctant to spend money replacing it. The good news is that you don't need to. You can just connect a portable DVD burner to the USB socket, and you will have the same capabilities as someone with a brand new computer.

If people with an old desktop computer have limited facilities, that is nothing compared to laptop and notebook users, who don't have any kind of drive on their machine. These new notebooks are highly specified, and powerful machines in their own right, but they are built to be small, light and portable. Most of the time this is not an issue, as files can be easily transferred back to a desktop using a flash drive. There are times, however, when the lack of a CD or DVD drive is keenly felt, and the addition of a portable DVD burner can plug this gap for good.

The people who will benefit most from this are the ones who are constantly on the move, especially if their business depends on it. Although it never a good idea to use a portable DVD burner which is powered by the USB socket, as it draws more power than these sockets are designed to cope with, even the need for an external power source should not be a problem in most cases. If you are traveling from site to site, there should still be plenty of opportunities to plug the burner in to back up your files, or to create the presentations you need.

A portable DVD burner has become increasingly important now that video is playing a much larger part in how computers are used. File sizes are increasing as a result, and although it is cheap and easy to get hold of a very large hard drive to which you can back up your files, even this involves some degree of risk. Backing up to DVD as well as hard drive, especially for crucially important files, is always the best idea. This is now easy and cheap with a portable DVD burner.
